Cutting Karmic Cords, Allowing Grief is Key

Getting divorced is like having a part of you die. And from a psychic perspective, the process of clearing and healing from grief is the same.

It’s unclear why so many Americans are rushing to the altar in droves — only to drive home in separate cars one, three, or 20 years later.

Once, marriage was a necessity for economical and physical survival: it took two full-time till-death-do-us-partners to work the farm, run the small business, provide for the family and so forth.

But today, most folks aren’t out tilling fields or hanging laundry on the line for a family of seven. In fact, those in the 20- and 30-something post Boomers generation are essentially "virtual" and have the ability to work anywhere — from a studio apartment to an internet café.

Marriage is not longer necessary for survival and divorce rates reflect that.

Divorce is a Time for Grieving

As divorce becomes the cultural norm, experts have been able to gain a greater understanding about the process — and from a psychic perspective, they're learning how to better facilitate healing following divorce.

Energetically, what you go through when you get divorced is similar to what happens when you grieve a death. T

he grieving process happens in five non-linear stages, according to Maxine B. Cohen, M.F.T. and host of DivorceWizards.com, a site that provides information and support for those recovering from divorce.

For all practical purposes, the person you once loved is not longer exists. That person, that relationship, has "died." And in almost every case, resuscitation is not possible — or even desirable.

When someone dies, there’s often time reach closure on past problems. But in divorce, closure is rare. The problems you had while married are the same problems you’ll have when you’re divorced.

Another word for problems? Soul lessons.

Cutting Cords, Releasing Past Karma Following Divorce

The key to moving on is letting go, explains Debbie Ford in her book Spiritual Divorce: Divorce as a Catalyst for an Extraordinary Life.

"Understanding the energetic resonance of souls is essential to being able to cut the karmic cords that keep us tied to our partners in negative ways," writes Ford.

Once the dark cloud of grief has lifted (and energetically, this may take months or years), you may begin to consciously release yourself from the energetic ties you still hold with your ex, she explains.

The process of “cutting karmic cords” as Ford suggests may involve prayer, meditation, asking for Divine assistance, and working with energy — and the first time you approach it, you may want some help.

Michael Tamura, author of You Are The Answer and a gifted pyschic and healer, explains that the way energy works does not require you meet in person with a psychic assistant — distance work is just as effective, because of the way psychic energy works.

Most people find that the results of energetic releasing or "cutting karmic cords" are immediate — that’s how energy works: fast, immediate, divine. However, further work and continued attention to energetic clearing over time is suggested.

Although societal changes have resulted in more divorce, they've also resulted in better solutions. Today, experts understand better how to help people heal from divorce by using psychic and energetic tools.
